There is no alarm to warn you it’s low, so don’t forget to turn off the port that you were using. • Don’t use the AC port unless absolutely necessary. AC draws 35% more power than USB or DC and will drain the battery rapidly. • Don’t get it wet. Use power station only when in camp and keep it out of the rain. • Don’t expose it to sand. Do not put it down in or near the sand. The best practice is to pull it out of the ammo can and use it on the deck of a boat while in camp or at lunch/hike. The deck of a boat is one of the most sand free areas you will have on a trip and keeping sensitive electronics away from blowing sand is paramount. Sand will find its way into the tiniest crevices and cause problems. If you must bring it on shore, place it on a table out of the sand. Not a bad idea to keep it in the ammo can at all times when it is not in use. If the unit comes back with sand, mud or debris in any of the ports, you will be charged a cleaning fee. OTHER THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: • These are fragile and sensitive electronic devices. Treat them accordingly. • We strongly recommend that the rocket box holding the power station be stored below a hatch to keep it cool in summer and protected in case of a flip. • Everyone should have their own USB charging cables to connect with their device(s). • People should be dissuaded from bringing AC powered (standard household plug) devices. • In this day and age where everyone is traveling with multiple electronic devices, it is not uncommon for people to carry their own personal battery packs (approx. 5,000 – 30,000 mAh). You will want to encourage participants to bring these personal external power sources as they don’t take up much room and can often fill the needs of an individual to charge their phone during the length of the trip. This also can help prevent “rush hour” at the charging station. 21 Watt Solar Charger Grand Canyon: $2.00 per day Other Rivers: $15.00 for 1st day $2.00 for each additional day 21 Watt Dual USB Solar Charger Just the solar panel with 2 USB ports. No battery or cables included. Bring your own cables that you normally use to charge your electronic devices. It can charge a 6000 mAh battery in about 4 hours of direct sunlight. The average smart phone has a capacity of 2500 mAh battery. 11.1" × 6.3" folded or 26.4" × 11.1" opened 7 Watt Solar Charger Grand Canyon: $1.50 per day Other Rivers: $8.00 for 1st day $1.50 for each additional day Goal Zero 7 watt solar charger with adapter and rechargeable batteries. Combine this with one of our solar panels, and enjoy the luxury of running water on your boat while floating down the river, pulled in for lunch, or at camp. They are perfect for river trips, car camping and for extra guests & dogs at home. Thermarest Sleeping Pad Grand Canyon: $3.00 per day Other Rivers: $7.00 for 1st day $3.00 for each additional day BOXES & AMMO CANS Boxes & Ammo Cans (return to top) Aluminum Side Box Grand Canyon: $2.50 per day Other Rivers: $7.50 for 1st day $2.50 for each additional day For 18′ raft. Pictured here is an aluminum side box with a protective cover. Covers are a must for boxes that live in your 18’ raft footwell, especially in the summer. Ceiba includes 2 covers per boat in our Whole Shabang packages - 1 to cover the side box, the other to cover the three 20mm boxes. 20 mm Ammo Can Grand Canyon: $1.00 per day Other Rivers: $5.00 for 1st day $1.00 for each additional day For dry goods/trash. 50 Cal Ammo Can Grand Canyon: $1.75 per day Other Rivers: $3.80 for 1st day $1.75 for each additional day For personal items use. Downriver Compost Box & Service Grand Canyon: $10.00 flat fee Other Rivers: $10.00 flat fee For composting on the river: Ceiba Adventures can provide your river trip with a composting system (20 mils) to collect food scraps during your trip – usually 1-2 boxes per trip depending on number of people and days. Anything organic can go into the bucket with the exception of meat and dairy products, and human waste. This can include plate scrapings, food prep scraps, coffee grounds, leftovers, etc. Collecting food waste will save room in your trash cans and go to a good cause of providing the “greens” material for the compost process instead of going to the landfill. What will the compost be used for? After your trip all your composting goes directly to the Colton Community Garden (CCG) at the Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA - yes, the same MNA that the rapid at River Mile 27 is named after). Your food scraps will be combined with “browns” in a large- scale compost program at the garden to be utilized in the future to benefit crops as organic fertilizer. The CCG is an educational heritage garden that is dedicated to the cultivation of traditional crops grown on the Colorado Plateau. The garden is located on MNA grounds across the street from the main museum. It is run and managed by a dedicated all-volunteer team. The garden serves as a “living exhibition” for visitors to MNA and is always open to the public, visitors are welcome to tour the grounds at any time. • Backcountry Communication Options | Ceiba Adventures

Ceiba offers several options for your group's communication needs from the bottom of Grand Canyon. Whether it's strictly for emergencies or keeping in touch with family up top, we've got you covered. Exploring Communication Options for Backcountry Travelers Backcountry travelers now have several new communication options, thanks to advancements in satellite technology. Satellites enable direct phone calls and text messages to emergency response services like GCNP SAR, ensuring a reliable lifeline in critical situations. Additionally, full and fast internet connectivity is now possible through small Starlink systems, which can act as WiFi hubs for your phone. While these advancements are remarkable, not every traveler embraces staying connected. Many visitors to the Grand Canyon prefer to disconnect entirely from the outside world—and we get it. However, when emergencies arise, satellite communication can literally save lives. Striking the right balance between connectivity and solitude is key. One of the most cherished aspects of a Grand Canyon river trip is the escape it offers from cell service, emails, and daily news. It’s one of the rare places where you can truly disconnect and immerse yourself in its beauty and your fellow travelers. This freedom from technology lies at the heart of the Canyon’s appeal. “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” ― Anne Lamott That said, groups traveling through the Canyon often hold differing views about the role of technology on their trips. Over the past decade, smartphones have become common companions—not so much for communication, but because of their excellent cameras. For most, the standard practice has been to switch to airplane mode to preserve battery life and use the device solely as a camera. Now, it's possible with a few of the latest models of smartphones to text directly to/from them via satellite. Our goal is to ensure you have the best trip possible, whether you choose to embrace modern technology or leave it behind. The choice is yours as a group to decide how much technology feels right for your experience. Learn about your communication options below along with some information on emergency procedures for evacuations.
