Ceiba Adventures 2023 Photo Contest Guidelines Deadline to Submit Photos and Videos until midnight, February 24th! Photo/Video Submission Guidelines & Form We hope all of you have been able to ease back in to adventuring in your favorite places. Once again, we are looking for incredible images and video stories from trips that Ceiba outfitted, wherever that may have led you. Images and video will be judged by the story they tell – standing on their own. Enter as many still images and videos as you like. Be forewarned though that more images and video does not necessarily translate into better chances of winning. Oftentimes, less is more – choose wisely. We are looking for well crafted images and video that best exemplify quality outdoor adventure experiences in a well told story. Also, please tell us where the photo was taken if it’s not self evident. For photographs, here is what we will be looking for: The decisive moment – that split second that captures a specific moment and tells a story. Layered images – To maintain an interesting narrative it is essential to draw the viewer into the scene with images that have different layers and thereby telling a story – a foreground, a middle ground, and a background. Not just a pretty, flat snapshot, whether that is landscapes, action or portraits. If you need more than one image to tell the story, then by all means, add them in. For video we will want to see: Quality, tightly edited, well thought out storytelling with a beginning, middle and end. Not just a clip of a run through a rapid (unless that alone can fully convey an interesting story). Preferably a length of 2-8 minutes. You can send us the video directly though this submission form or share a link from YouTube or Vimeo. PRIZES Grand Prize – $150 cash awarded each for best image and best video. Honorable Mentions – Ceiba merchandise to be determined and photo credits for usage in social media and website awarded for outstanding images and video. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & CONTEST RULES: Final deadline for submissions is midnight, February 24, 2023 . All images & videos must be entered using our Submission Page link below. Your name must be included in each image/video file name: ex. "FirstName_LastName_001.jpg" and so on. Enter as many images/videos as you want. They don't have to be just from Grand Canyon, but must be related to outdoor adventures that Ceiba is involved with. Each image must be: A) In a jpeg, tiff or png format, B) Sized at least 1920 pixels on long side. Each video must be: A) In an mp4, mov or wmv format, B) Tightly edited & have a storyline, C) At least 720p, D) (Optional) loaded on to either YouTube or Vimeo - link must be provided. Eligible images/videos may be entered only by Ceiba clients from Ceiba trips -- past and present. All images/videos must have been taken by the individual submitting them. About Ceiba Adventures Ceiba Adventures’ equipment outfitting began with orchestrating several science trips in the Grand Canyon in 2004. We quickly became the preferred river equipment outfitter in Flagstaff, Arizona by offering fully outfitted row trips, transportation services, complete food packing & menu planning, as well as being the exclusive outfitter for motorboat rental . Private boaters world wide, the National Park Service, USGS Flagstaff, commercial river outfitters, independent scientists and the film industry continuously utilize Ceiba for outfitting and logistics. In 2004 Grand Canyon National Park was in the process of designing and implementing the new Colorado River Management Plan (CRMP). One important aspect of the new plan was to allocate 40% more trips to the private sector. Based on this information and our extensive experience in the Grand Canyon already, we started to outfit private trips on the Grand and a multitude of rivers in the South West. Our rise into the outfitting business was facilitated by our 30 years of experience working as guides in Grand Canyon during the summer months and running Ceiba’s adventure travel trips in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala during the winter. The Sacred Ceiba Tree of Life to the Maya Ceiba’s beginnings grew of Scott Davis’ love of travel and adventure in Mexico and Central America in the 70’s and 80’s. His travels and expeditions to the remote caves, rivers and the ruins of the Mayan civilization were the discoveries that spurred Ceiba’s initial trip offerings after 1985. 2025 marks 40 years in business & our gratitude goes out to our clients, employees, guides and their families who have contributed to Ceiba's success. Ceiba has many first river descents in southern Mexico and has pioneered some of the deepest and most technical caves in the western hemisphere. Ceiba’s participation and organization of these trips helped to develop the legitimization of commercial adventure travel in Chiapas, Mexico. My Latest Projects Ceiba Adventures on the Usumacinta River Our b ase of operations is now in the cool pines of Flagstaff, Arizona, the jump off point for trips into the Grand Canyon region. Owners Rachel Schmidt and Scott Davis began Ceiba’s rental equipment business in their garage. By the end of 2014 we moved to our new location on Fanning Dr. The three-acre property has been fully upgraded from a former scrap yard to an exemplary river facility built to suit Ceiba’s needs today and as we grow into the future. Ceiba provides expert boatmen and logistics for Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC) and National Park–contracted trips.
