A little dutch oven work, some grilling and a mix of hot and cold breakfasts. 18 day Ready Made This menu is easy and still yummy. The entrees are homemade meals by a local chef in boilbags, so you heat them, open and serve. All you need to prepare are the sides. This menu tries to minimize time spent on preparation and maximize your time to do other things! 21 day BBQ Extravaganza This menu will satisfy that need to grill. It must stem from the classic "girls grill golden porkchops" photo in the original Belknap river guide. 21 day Good Eatin' This menu made the group happy! A pretty straight forward one. A few grill nites, nothing too laborious for dinner, some variety, and plain old good eatin'!! 21 day Guides Choice It was Grand Canyon guides who designed this menu. With our experience of how food lasts we will arrange your menu and send you an overview to approve. From here we can finalize the details and give you a per person/per day cost. Menu options must be submitted 60 days before your launch. Customized Menu Options A Few Thoughts! You already know that you will probably eat better on your canyon trip than you ever do at home. How often do you actually eat 3 square meals a day at home? Is it likely that at home you will eat leftovers at least twice a week? Welcome to our Grand restaurant where all of our menus have healthy, wholesome ingredients that will keep you well fed, creative and never going hungry! Breakfasts – Although lots of huge, hot breakfasts sound exciting, we find most people really don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing breakfast. They’d rather be drinking Toucanet coffee , looking at the view or getting a head start on rigging their boat for the day! Having a handful of just cold & hot cereal mornings is an easy fix! Lunches – Variety is nice, but if you want to do a lot of hiking it is convenient to be able to have a pack lunch. Some trips just pull out the lunch stuff at breakfast and have everyone pack their own lunch. The beauty of a pack lunch is that you can eat whenever you want! This saves time of not having to do the entire lunch set up midday. Some of our lunches require a little prep the morning of, for example: hummus & tabouli, pasta salad, hardboiled eggs. A few need a bowl at lunch, like tuna, chicken or salmon salad, veggie and caesar wraps. The 20 mil lunch box has all the condiments you need and usually all the lunch items are in one cooler for ease of finding things. It’s always good to look at the lunch menu during breakfast to make sure everything you need will be accessible when you stop for lunch, such as apples, oranges, lemons, limes, special ingredients for that lunch. I challenge you to eat all your fruit! Slicing up apples & oranges with lunch will encourage eating, or take a whole piece for a hike! Snack Box – Heaven forbid you forget that the snack box exists! These are for anytime, anyplace! Add some things from the snacks box to spice up your pack lunch or grab a bite if you need a little sugar rush before running Hance Rapid! (In the summer time the chocolates are usually hiding in the lunch cooler!) Your goal is to eat it all! Whoever ends up with this box on their boat will either be really popular or really full. Dinners – There are suggestions with each meal on how to prepare the food. But on the other hand, if you are a whiz in the kitchen feel free to be creative. Don’t be shy with those spices. Keep an eye on your produce. If something is ripe and needs to be used, by all means use it. Don’t wait for it to rot so you can throw it away. You won’t starve down the way, I promise! Use your leftovers! – Toasted bagels or english muffins leftover from breakfast give great variety at lunch or provide a good mid morning snack. If breakfast doesn’t call for bagels but you know you have extras from a previous meal, pull them out!!! If your boat with lunch bread flips and gets soggy think about enforcing the open face sandwich rule, or use tortillas. We rarely see a trip that uses every single tortilla. Kitchen Sundries & Toilet Supplies – Full trip kitchen sundries & full trip toilet supplies are included with our Whole Shabang food pack. If your food pack is not part of a Whole Shabang package, sundries are as follows: • A Ceiba food pack AND a complete Ceiba kitchen rental – includes full trip kitchen sundries. • A Ceiba food pack AND a complete Ceiba toilet rental – includes full trip toilet supplies. Boatmen! – You are responsible for knowing what is on your boat! Keep your cooler neat and drained. Check your milk crates with fruit & veggies to make sure they are in good shape. Pull out anything that is going bad so it doesn’t affect everything else. Please feel free to call us with any questions about any food menus or issues! In addition to this cost is the service fee for planning/shopping/packing your food. Please call for details. Kitchen Sundries & Toilet Supplies List of Staples, Spices & Snacks

  • Personal Gear List | Ceiba Adventures

Ceiba’s recommended gear list for your journey down river. It is impossible to perfect a list of things to bring–each day in the desert environment is different and brings its own set of challenges. This list will help. Personal Gear List Let's go boating! Ceiba’s Recommendations for Basic Necessities The list below highlights our recommended gear for your journey down river. It is impossible to perfect a list of things to bring–each day in the desert environment is different and brings its own set of challenges. Please consider what will be important to you and pack accordingly! Raingear: Rain jacket or a well fitted paddling jacket and pants are a necessity, not only for rain, but also for shedding water in the rapids. Don’t skimp on the cost of nice rain gear. A lightweight jacket is nice to take hiking as well. Long Pants: Lightweight, nylon, airy pants, especially for sun protection. Quick-drying khakis or surgical scrubs are ideal. A pair of heavy long pants are nice for warmth in cool weather. Shorts: Casual everyday nylon fast drying shorts are a must on the river. Shirts: Nylon is recommended, along with several long sleeved shirts for sun protection. Bring one warm long-sleeved shirt as well. In summer, cotton is great for keeping you cool when it’s wet. Check out your local thrift store for these great shirts! Jacket: This should be of a synthetic fabric that dries quickly, with pockets for your hands. Socks: Wool or synthetic blends are recommended. Footwear: One pair of river shoes, one pair of lightweight hiking boots & one pair of flip flops or sandals (Teva and Chaco are favorites). Wetsuit socks are nice to use on the inside of your tennis shoes for the river. Headwear: A wide brimmed, lightweight sunhat is highly recommended. A wool beanie is good in any season, just in case. Gloves: Warm Gloves, lightweight sun gloves, or even hiking gloves. Base Layer: At least two pair of capilene underwear (tops and bottoms) are recommended on the river. There are different weights to choose from: light, medium or expedition depending on the time of year. These are a great base layer in camp or on the river. Bathing suits: For swimming in side streams and bathing in the river. Sleep Kit: This should include sleeping bag, sheet, sleeping pad, tarp and pillow. A sheet is key during the hot months. These items are available to rent from Ceiba! Tent: A 3-season tent is highly recommended to bring along or rent from Ceiba. Most nights you’ll likely want to sleep out under the stars! Toilet kit: Should include a small towel and washcloth, toothbrush and paste, hairbrush, shampoo, soap, mirror, tweezers, etc. Lotion/salve is essential for dry & chapped skin. Water bottles: Two one-liter bottles are nice. Bring extras if you plan on doing long hikes. Sunglasses/Prescription Lenses: Bring a sunglasses case, a retaining strap, and if relevant, spare prescription glasses or contact lenses. Sunscreen: Please bring plenty of sunscreen. Headlamp & Spare Batteries: A headlamp is invaluable, a must! We recommend bringing two. Carabiners: Nice to have a couple for clipping water bottles and miscellaneous items on to your load (boatmen especially). Tupperware style container: This option is great for left overs and packed lunches. Recommended Gear for Fall through Spring Trips (October – April) In addition to the items above, the following things should be included: One pair of wet suit booties One fleece or wool hat One pair of fleece or wool gloves One pair of fleece pants Drysuits – highly recommended for passengers on winter trips! Rentals are available through Olympic Outdoor Center, Pacific River Supply , Kayak Academy or Immersion Research Rubber boots are a must for winter! Your dry, warm toes will thank you at camp! Paddle jacket/paddle pants Comfortable & dry cotton clothes to wear in camp One extra set of synthetic underwear (mid-weight) One extra fleece top Two to three extra pairs of socks Extra headlamp batteries Optional Items: Waterproof guidebook of the river – available at Ceiba! Your personal life jacket: must be a USCG Type III or V (we rent Type V life jackets and they are included at no charge in the Whole Shabang!) Small binoculars Musical instrument Pocket knife Small roll of duct tape (although please no duct tape on rental gear) Ziploc bags (included with a Ceiba food pack) Liquor (plastic bottles) Thermos (cooler months) Camera (lots of memory/batteries) Music playing device, bluetooth speaker, chargers/batteries Waterproof case for electronics or other valuables Highly recommended - External battery pack/charger for all your small electronics Appropriate camp wear!

The owners and employees of Ceiba Adventures have decades of experience working, living, and playing in the outdoors. We understand through firsthand experience that in order to protect the places we love and the opportunities they provide, a balance must be kept between recreation and preservation. As the largest outfitter of private and science trips in Grand Canyon, we therefore hold ourselves to an elevated standard of environmental stewardship. Sustainability The owners and employees of Ceiba have decades of experience working, living, and playing in the outdoors. We understand through firsthand experience that in order to protect the places we love and the opportunities they provide, a balance must be kept between recreation and preservation. As the largest outfitter of private and science trips in Grand Canyon, we therefore hold ourselves to an elevated standard of environmental stewardship. Here are just several examples of the ways Ceiba works to stick to our stewardship goals: During the construction phase of Ceiba’s campus, we built in two 10,000 gallon rain catchment tanks. These are used specifically for washing and cleaning all our boats and gear after river trips. We recycle all cardboard, plastics (#1 PETE and #2 HDPE), glass, aluminum and other metals. We also recycle all metal buckles from straps and worn out river bags. We now offer composting to our down river and contracted government trips. All our composting goes directly to the Colton Community Garden - Museum of Northern Arizona Ceiba repurposes and upcycles used Paco pads for humans in to dog beds. Ceiba does the majority of our repairs in-house . When we can’t repair it, we look for local vendors first. We are a certified repair facility for Aire & NRS. Ceiba does plastic welding to repair water jugs and large river coolers. We also do our own sewing repairs as well as for others. We source all materials and labor locally when available. We utilize local, organic foods and products as much as possible. Learn more about Café Feminino which supports Women Coffee Farmers & Owners . All of our broken and well-used 5 gallon bailing buckets are recycled through a local “Master Recycler”. Additionally, Ceiba is equally committed to supporting our local economy and the boating community. Some of our partnerships include: Grand Canyon Youth (GCY) —engages youth from diverse backgrounds in their communities and natural environment through multi-day river trips. Grand Canyon Private Boaters Association (GCPBA) —keeps Grand Canyon accessible to private/self-guided recreation. Grand Canyon River Guides (GCRG) —publishes Boatman’s Quarterly Review to “educate and enlighten about river issues, highlight the colorful human history of the Colorado River, and protect the river experience we love”. The Whale Foundation —supports river guides and their families. BLE Flagstaff —is a non-profit organization that performs random acts of kindness with the intent to make a positive difference in the community. Flagstaff Family Food Center Food Bank & Kitchen —accepts all food donations and organic waste; serves meals to local families (nearly 250,000 meals annually) in need; and provides children’s literacy programs.

  • Our Team | Ceiba Adventures

Collectively, Ceiba is dedicated to giving you the best service possible for your trip of a lifetime. We don’t just send you downstream with our equipment. We send our spirit of adventure along with you. There are so many dedicated people (and dogs) that contribute to our success here at Ceiba. Everyone wears a lot of hats – thus we don’t have specific “job titles”. We all have our own individual skills, assets, worries, joys, achilles heels, stories, etc. Collectively, we’re dedicated to giving you the best service possible for your trip of a lifetime. We don’t just send you downstream with our equipment. We send our spirit of adventure along with you. This is why it’s fun to come to work every day! The Ceiba crew went on a short river trip from Diamond Creek to Pearce Ferry in Grand Canyon in early February 2025. The weather was perfect. “What did today mean to you?” was one of the questions asked of each of the Ceiba crew on this rare chance to get away from work on a river trip together. That question ended up becoming the heart of this short film. At Ceiba, we work hard. We keep our heads down, get things done, and often move through our days with headphones on, focused on our own piece of the bigger picture. It’s rare that we all get to step away from that rhythm and share time together — not just after hours, but on the river, over multiple days, in the kind of setting we usually send others off to enjoy. We got to share a ton of laughs; some beautiful, quiet moments; some spicy rapids; and a few small surprises. We got to live the kind of experience we work so hard to provide for other people. That’s not nothing — that’s a gift that was given to us by Rachel and Scott. This short film tries to capture a little of that — not just the action, but the feeling of it all. Grand Canyon brings people together. The Ceiba crew helps make that happen. It was really nice that we got to bring a little of that magic to each other for once.
